Every home should have a smoke alarm. Smoke alarms save lives. It has been proven that properly maintained and installed smoke alarms reduce fire deaths and injury. Here are some tips to make sure that your smoke alarm is properly functioning.
- Ensure that there is a smoke alarm on every floor of your home, as well as in every bedroom. Fires can spread fast and by having alarms spread out, you’ll know faster that you need to get out.
- Test your smoke alarm at least once a month. Simply press the button to ensure that the alarm is functioning.
- Replace all smoke alarms in your home every ten years at the minimum.
- Battery powered smoke alarms, must have their battery replaced at least once a year.
